why does my car hesitate and pull slowly when i step on the gas

it doesn't want to pull when it does it goes very slow for about 5 mins. the interior lights goes out when i put the head lights on

  Plug in a code reader and see if any codes are stored. The check engine light need not be illuminated for codes to be present. Mass air flow sensors are common to fail on this vehicle. Try cleaning and / or unplugging the connector and driving it. If it runs better with MAF unplugged then replace the MAF.
