car cranks but won't start
My car has been operating just fine and then out of the blue it just died this morning on the way to work. It cranks like it wants to start but won't start. I can hear the fuel pump come on & then shut off as normal. It has about 153K miles on it and is serviced regularly. Always use full sythetic oil when its changed.

Planning to check that next but can't get to it for a few hours yet. Will let you know. Had a Honda Civic that did almost same exact thing and ended up needing a new distributor. Thinking that might be it & would be very happy to find that to be the problem, but don't want to just throw one at it. Any ideas for a good solid troubleshooting of a distributor?

If the fuel pump is working and you have spark, check the injector voltage or listen to the pulse.

The voltage is checked with a noid light. Are there any trouble codes?

It didn't throw any codes when it died. Not sure now because all lights come on when keyis turned but won't go out until the car starts. Thinking of scanning for codes anyway just to be sure. Also gonna check to make sure fuel is getting to the front. Hear what sounds like fuel pump making that humming buzzing noise when key is turned so seems like it's working but probably better to make sure. Can't really check anything until in the evenings so will look into that stuff and let you know.

MY CAR IS FIXED! For those who are following this and having similar problems, here are steps we took last night that fixed it: 1) scanned for codes..none; 2) checked fuel to front.....plenty; 3) popped off dist cap & boom there it was, the rotor just fell off with the cap. The screw had come out of the rotor! Bought a new cap and rotor & splurged for new battery too with $ money saved as ours was very old. Car runs like a top again and has new pep to boot....Yay!

This is 2nd time we had this issue. 1st time was the Honda Civic I mentioned earlier but it had additional distributor issues. Both of those rotor screw issues were on parts purchased from 1 of the major parts chains & each time the parts that fixed the problem were bought at their competitor O sponsored by NHRA. Not bashing the other guys, they have good parts too, we just dont trust their distributor parts anymore. Thank you Jason for your input & willingness to help! Very much appreciate it!
