Spoon Sports 7/15/2011Not enough detail in the question to be sure, but if you use the emergency brake, there is a drum in disc design at the rear, and what you are hearing is the brake shoes releasing from the drum.
If not, it's likely that the disc and brake are rusting together while parked, which is normal for any brake on any vehicle. The thud is them separating.

HouseCallAuto 7/15/2011Something may be up with a tire. Try rotating the tires and see if sound remains the same. -
