Bad power steering pump?

After initial start the power steering doesn't work but then starts to work after a minute or so. What do you think that is?

  Fisrt question - have you checked the steering fluid level and refilled as necessary? Next, try to listen for any abnormal noises from the power steering pump - raise the hood and with the engine cold, start up and listen closely / observe the steering pump for any noises.
  When was the last time the accessory drive belt was replaced? It may be related to a faulty / worn drive belt or belt tensioner.
  Check the many different on-line auto parts sources; such as - www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.partsgeek.com and www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (Rock Auto) list the power steering pump from around $23.00 (minus core charge) for your vehicle.
