J and K AUTOMOTIVE TOWING AND REPAIR 2/10/2011explain more on what you are asking
laura 2/10/2011I just bought this car and the other day (out of nowhere) i hear this awful grinding noise. i pull over and notice a groove being put into my rotor . but not where u think. its the front of the rotor where the hub attaches.it is 1/2in. wide 1/4 in deep and was ground into the steele within a 1/2mile drive.
laura 2/10/2011its like nothing i have ever seen before. it looks like the caliper is sitting right on top of the front part of ther rotor. -
Hi Laura,
Your cars braking system is run on hydrolic fluid. This fluid lives in the "master cylinder"
Your cars brake pads are "disk brakes". On a disk brake system, the fluid from the master cylinder is used to force pressure into a "caliper" (think of your fist grabbing a stress ball). This squeezes two brake pads against the disk (rotor, looks like an old record or a huge CD). This is attached to your cars wheels, forcing it to slow down or stop.
Warm regards,
Audra
