Mike 6/30/2010Does it have a check engine light on? The first thing to do is hook up a code reader to help diagnose.
HouseCallAuto 6/30/2010I want you to try something. First thing is hook up a code reader to the diagnostic connector under the dashboard on the driver side. This is the way vehicles are diagnosed. The codes will lead to the repair necessary. The cost of the tool is not that much considering that a shop will bill you a similar amount PLUS parts and labor to fix the problem. There are instructions that come with it and it is easy to do. After you read the code or codes, write them down and repost with the codes and we can tell you what parts to buy to DIY if you are up to it. You can also buy this or a similar tool locally. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/.../E203030.html
After you have read the codes write them down. Now what I want you to do is unplug the electrical connector from the mass air flow sensor near the air filter and see if the engine runs much much better than with it plugged in. If it does run better you need a new one. MAF sensor. I want you to read the codes first because when you unplug it you will set a code. I want to know what code or codes are there before we set more.
