1994 Lincoln Town Car Base 8Cyl4.6L - Steering & Suspension
My 1994 Lincoln Town Car is very low to the ground in the back.
When I turn the air suspension switch on I can hear the air compressor running but the car isn't lifting in the back at all. Also, I do not hear any air leaking anywhere under the car. My fiance has already checked the air compressor (which was fine), the relief valves on the air bags, and the leveling sensor, all of which seemed fine. We are thinking the air line going to the air bags may be plugged up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It is likely that the air bags are leaking and need replacing. I have replaced many of these with the same exact symptoms. Unless you tell me in response that the air bags have been replaced already (you would not have left out that detail I don't think) then the cause of the problem is the air bags leaking at the part of the bag that rolls over on to it self. There will be cracking on the surface that will foam up with very tiny air leaks if you spray the bags with Windex. Probability is greater than 90%.

Yeah, the air bags did have tiny cracks in them and we knew that they would need replaced but the car was still lifting up in the back. We had to air it up about once a week because of the air leaks in the air bags but then just all of a sudden it won't move at all AND you can't hear any air escaping out of the bags. The bags don't have any big tears in them, just tiny cracks, so wouldn't you be able to hear the air escaping from them?

My summary on this is to replace the air springs because you know you need them no matter. See what happens. It's not like you changed air springs that were good.

Yeah, that's what we are going to have to do. My fiance took the air bags off last night and noticed that no air was going into the relief valves so the problem may be the valves but I take it you have to buy the whole air bag bc the valve comes with it? We are probably going to have to either buy new airbags and possibly more or convert it to coil springs. I am not sure which yet. Which would be cheaper?

The only place I have used to buy air springs cheap and the valves are separate by the way (because just about everyone else except the Ford dealer does not even list them) is this place >> strutmasters.com

I did some asking around and it seems easier and cheaper to buy a conversion kit than replacement parts. It's really depressing to see my 'Baby' sitting on the ground. :(
