How to Replace a Tail Pipe
Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or closed toe shoes.
Park your vehicle on a solid level surface and chock the front wheels.
Using a floor jack, lift up the rear of the vehicle.
Secure the vehicle with jack stands on both sides for safety before starting any work. The pinch welds or the frame rails are the two best locations. Do not rely on the jack to hold the vehicle up while working.
Locate the exhaust tail pipe under the rear of the vehicle.
Spray the clamp nuts with penetrating oil. Remove the clamp that holds the tail pipe to the exhaust system. Disconnect any hangers holding the tail pipe to the frame. Remove the tail pipe.
Install the new tail pipe. Attach the tail pipe to the exhaust system with a new clamp. Reconnect the tail pipe hanger.
